Failure to Properly Reduce Spiral Fracture of Tibia and Fibula
Plaintiff suffered a spiral fracture in a twisting fall. The defendant orthopedic surgeon performed an IM nailing but did not properly approximate the fracture surfaces so there was insufficient reduction and healing. He also failed to surgical reduce the fibula fracture. The plaintiff was forced to undergo an explantation of the IM nail and required surgical plating to reduce both fractures.
Only through a detailed questioning of defendant with his own imaging which was electonicaly marked in digital form were we able to bring to life the lack of callus formation sufficient to establish the departure and the lack of proper reduction.
